Experts Respond to January Home Sales Report

In response to data released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) on Wednesday, experts overall agreed the housing market is heading towards recovery but advised certain factors need to be taken into consideration when analyzing the numbers. Melva was born and raised in Washington, DC and at the age of 15, she was awarded an academic scholarship to attend the prestigious Emma Willard Prep School in Troy, NY. She discovered the south (warm weather) during a family vacation and soon graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA with a degree in economics.

After an extraordinary corporate career in sales, management and real estate at IBM, General Electric and the Federal Government, Melva was nominated in 1989 and confirmed by the United States Senate as a Presidential Appointee during the President George H. W. Bush administration. Managing a Senate appropriations budget of $250 million and a staff of 24, assisting minority, women-owned and small businesses obtain contracts with the federal government was her main focus.

In 1995, Melva was able to fulfill a life-long dream and relocated to Key West, Florida. After successfully assisting her husband with starting a business, she returned to a career in real estate. Since 1997, Melva has been very successful putting buyers and sellers together in both residential and commercial real estate.

Melva is very active with community activities and organizations, such as Literacy for Young Adults, The American Cancer Society, Rotary International and the Girl Scouts USA. She is Government Relations Chair of the National Association of Women REO Brokers, and a Governor Appointed Board Member of the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority. When she is not assisting others, Melva enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter flying their plane, boating and fishing throughout Florida and the Florida Keys.
